This specimen was lot 3054 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 2,875 CHF (about US$4,333 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"KROATIEN Ragusa. Tallero Rettorale (Rektoratstaler) 1745, Ragusa. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-FDC. Avers leicht gereinigt. (Croatia, city of Ragusa, rector's thaler of 1746, Ragusa mint. Very rare in this condition, About Uncirculated, Obverse slightly cleaned.)"
This coin is an example of a type struck 1743-48 for the Republic of Ragusa, a Christian enclave on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea. At the time, it was an independent city-state surrounded and protected by the Ottoman Empire, which ruled most of the Balkans. Ragusa was occupied by French troops in 1805 and annexed by Austria in 1814. The SCWC doesn't give its exact specification but it is roughly equal to contemporary German talers.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 28.33 g, silver, 43 mm diameter.
