Künker sale 293, lot 331

This specimen was lot 331 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €22,000 (about US$29,652 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH Friedrich Wilhelm I. der Soldatenkönig, 1713-1740. Reichstaler 1727, EGN, Berlin. FRID · WILH · D · G · REX · BORVSSIAE · EL · BRANDENB · Geharnischtes Brustbild r. mit umgelegtem Ordensband//Gekröntes Wappen mit gekröntem Mittelschild, zu den Seiten Palmzweige, zu den Seiten der Krone die Jahreszahl, unten die Signatur E : G : N : (Ernst Georg Neubauer, Münzmeister in Berlin 1725-1749). Von großer Seltenheit. Feine Patina, sehr attraktives, vorzügliches Exemplar. Exemplar der Auktion Frankfurter Münzhandlung 134, Frankfurt/Main 1990, Nr. 224. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William I, the Soldier King, 1713-40, thaler of 1727, Berlin mint. Obverse: armored bust right with folded Order ribbon; reverse: crowned arms with crowned escutcheon, palm branches around, date above. Of the greatest rarity, fine toning, very attractive, extremely fine example.)"

This two year type (1719 and 1727) is very rare as are all Prussian thalers prior to the 1750's.
