This specimen is one of a three year type struck in Lisbon for the Portuguese colonies in India. Once extensive, Portuguese dominions had dwindled by the 1800's to the enclaves of Goa, Diu and Damao. This type is the last issued before India invaded and annexed the areas in 1962. Issues up to 1952 were based on the rupee and struck at the British controlled mints of Bombay and Calcutta.

Recorded mintage: 5,000,000 for 1958-59.

Specification: 2 g, bronze, plain edge, 18 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 30.
