This ten escudos was issued by Portugal for Portuguese Guinea, a one year type and scarce in nice condition. Many of the pre-World War Two issues for the Portuguese colonies are hard to find. The first specimen was lot 142 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $423.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLONIAL AFRICA, Portuguese. Guiné Portuguesa (Portuguese Guinea). República Portuguesa. 1910-1974. AR 10 Escudos. Lisboa (Lisbon) mint. Dated 1952. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 66. Gem blast white BU. Highest ever graded specimen and a one year only type." The third specimen was lot 2931 in Stephen Album sale 41 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2021), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[2] noted, "PORTUGUESE GUINEA: Portuguese Colony, AR 10 escudos, 1952, lustrous, one-year type, a lovely example! NGC graded MS66."

Recorded mintage: 1,200,000.

Specification: 5 g, 0.720 fine silver, the Lissner specimen 23 mm diameter, 5.09 g, 6h axis.
