This specimen was lot 1859 in Goldberg sale 112 (Los Angeles, September 2019), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "Portugal. Escudo, 2001. KM-631a. The Last Escudo. NGC graded MS-67." The specimen shown is from a type struck for circulation 1986-2000. The denomination was terminated in 2000, being superseded by the euro. This issue of 2001 in gold was strictly for collectors.
Recorded mintage: 50,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 4.6 g, 0.917 fine gold, 16 mm diameter.
