This specimen was lot 76151 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL. 500 Reis, 1851. Lisbon Mint. Maria II. NGC MS-61. From the Richard Margolis Collection." This type was struck 1837-53 as part of the decimal reform introduced under queen Maria II. Some of the dates are quite scarce but the 1851 is fairly common.
Recorded mintage: 155,000.
Specification: 14.8 g, 0.917 fine silver, 30 mm diameter.
