This specimen was lot 25509 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Very Rare 1000 Reis of João VI: João VI gold 1000 Reis 1821, MS63 NGC, a choice specimen of this very rare type and date with sparkling mint luster and exceptionally sharp design features. Only 275 pieces were struck for this date, and this is the first example of the type that we have brought to auction." This quartinho was struck 1818-21; all are rare.
