Porutgal 1754 V reis rev DSLR.jpg

This specimen is one of a type struck in Lisbon 1751-57, 1764-66 and 1776 for José I, king of Portugal 1750-77. It is priced low in the catalog but rather scarce in nice condition as it circulated until the 1830's. The king's name was spelled IOSEPHUS (shown here) or JOSEPHUS. For 1754, JOSEPHUS is scarce and IOSEPHUS is common.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.3 g, copper, 30 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 242, Gomes-05.07 (IOSEPHUS) or Gomes-06.02 (JOSEPHUS).
