Poland 1832-KG 5 zlotych
This specimen was lot 41216 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. 5 Zlotych (3/4 Ruble), 1832-KG. Warsaw Mint. Nicholas I of Russia. PCGS AU-53. Commemorative type with bust of Alexander I. Despite spending a bit of time in circulation, this dual denominated, dual ruler issue provides pleasing details and the chance at a straight graded example of a type sought by both Russian and Polish collectors. From the Collection of Kazmier Wysocki, former mayor of Hackensack, New Jersey." This type was struck 1829-34 and is rather expensive. One zloty equalled thirty groszy. After the revolt of 1831, the regime dropped all pretense of respecting Polish liberties and embarked on an intensive (tho fruitless) program of Russification. Russian coinage for Poland ended in 1841 altho the Warsaw mint remained operating until the 1850's.
