Stack's Bowers 2015 NYINC sale, lot 1459

This specimen was lot 1459 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $6,168.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. 50 Zloty, 1818-IB. PCGS AU-53 Secure Holder. Deep lemon color with traces of prooflike mirroring in the legends. Conservative grading." This scarce type is listed for 1817-29. A variety exists for 1818 struck without collar, resulting in a larger diameter. Coinage for Poland ceased in 1841 and regular Russian issues introduced.
