This specimen was lot 7101 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $2,820. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. Grosz, 1817-IB. NGC PROOF-66 RB. Sharply struck with original mint red amongst the devices. Ex: Hesselgesser Collection." This copper type was struck 1816-22. This specimen realized seventy times the catalog value. The last grosz was struck for the kingdom of Poland in 1841; Russian coins were used thereafter.
