Poland 1788-EB 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 5661 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €650 (about US$840 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"POLEN, KÖNIGREICH, Stanislaus August, 1764-1795. 1/2 Konv.-Taler 1788, E-B, Warschau. Min. justiert, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (kingdom of Poland, Stanislaus August, 1764-95, half convention thaler of 1788, Warsaw mint. Minor adjustment marks, very fine to extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1788 and 1792 in the last days of the Polish kingdom before the final partition. The 1788 is scarce, the 1792 is very rare and the last issue of the denomination. The coinage of the independent Polish kingdom ended in 1795.
