Stack's Bowers 2026 NYINC sale, lot 41194

This specimen was lot 41194 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $6,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. Taler, 1784-EB. Warsaw Mint. Stanislaus Augustus. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. Despite an unfortunate cleaning, this Taler provides lovely details with limited actual wear. Difficult to locate, and desirable no matter the condition. From the Collection of Kazmier Wysocki, former mayor of Hackensack, New Jersey." This type was struck in small numbers 1783-85 to the module of a convention thaler. All have initials "EB". Stanislas August Poniatowski was the last king of independent Poland. By this time, Poland had lost most of her sovereignty, being the puppet of her neighbors Russia, Prussia and Austria.
