CNG Triton XXVIII, lot 6432

This specimen was lot 6432 in CNG Triton XXVIII (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $1,225. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND, Monarchy. Stanislaw August Poniatowski. 1764-1795. AR Półtalar Koronny – Half Taler. Warszawa (Warsaw) mint. Dated 1778 EB. Head right / Crowned coat-of-arms within wreath. Toned, hairlines. Near EF. From the Alexander Christopher Collection." This type is noted for 1767-68, 1772-82 in small quantities along with the thaler (Dav-1619). This specimen realized nearly five times the catalog value.

Recorded mintage: 21,000.

Specification: 14.03 g, 0.833 fine silver, this specimen 33 mm diameter, 13.94 g, 12 h axis.
