This type was issued by the Philippines for circulation 1983-90, to be superseded in 1991 by a smaller brass coin (KM 242.3). Today, with US$1 = 48 PHP (approximately), no coins smaller than a peso circulate. This date is the most common. The bird on the reverse, Pithecophaga jeffreyi, is better known as the monkey-eating eagle.
