SB225-76086r.jpg

This specimen was lot 76086 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $145. The catalog description[1] noted, "PHILIPPINES. Quarto, 1783-M. Manila Mint. Charles III. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, VG Details. RARE." The Manila mint was little better than a smithy prior to the 1860's. This quarto and its accompanying octavo are not particularly rare but very difficult to find in collectible condition being crudely made and harshly used. This type is listed for 1771-74 and 1782-83.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper, 22 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: Cayón-10944, KM-2; Cal-9.
