Aureo y Calicó sale 422, lot 3447

This specimen was lot 3447 in Aureo y Calicó sale 422 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 50 € (about US$65 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Perú. 2002. 1 nuevo sol. Serie Ibero - Americana. Nativos en caballitos de totora [Ibero-American series, natives in reed rafts]. AG. Proof." In 1991, the currency was reformed, one nuevo sol = one million intis. Surprisingly enough, the nuevo sol has remained stable against the dollar (US$1 = S/. 2.77, October 2013, US$1 = S/. 3.70, January 2024). This NCLT was issued as part of the Ibero-American series and honors Moche ceramics. Other issues of this denomination in 2002 included KM 308.4 (copper-nickel-zinc) and KM 331 (Alexander von Humboldt).
