This type, issued 1986 only from Lima, reflects the accelerating pace of inflation which devastated Peru in the late 1970's and 1980's. Beset by the Sendero Luminoso rebellion, growing narco-trafficking influence and corrupt, incompetent military rule, the regime attempted to check inflation by reforming the currency; 1000 soles = one inti. This reform failed and another reform was instituted in 1989. This NCLT was accompanied by a silver 100 intis (KM 298). Wikipedia comments,

"Andrés Avelino Cáceres Dorregaray (1836-1923) served as the President of Peru two times during the 19th century, from 1886 to 1890 as the 27th President of Peru, and again from 1894 to 1895 as the 30th President of Peru. In Peru, he is considered a national hero for leading the resistance to Chilean occupation during the War of the Pacific (1879–1883), where he fought as a General in the Peruvian Army."
