Peru 1944 20 centavos

The twenty centavos denomination was originally occupied by the silver quinto, struck 1888-1917. It was superseded by a copper-nickel coin in 1918, which was replaced by a brass type in 1942 when World War Two drove up the price of nickel. This sub-type, issued 1942-44, features a thick planchet and a numeric date. This date, a product of the Lima mint, is common. It is accompanied by brass five and ten centavos.
