Peru 1915-FG sol
The specimen shown is one of a sub-type struck only in 1914-15, but using the basic design used 1864-1896 and again from 1914-1916 at the Lima mint for Peru. There are many varieties and subtypes of this basic design. After 1916, the silver fineness was reduced to 0.500, though the same design was used until 1935. The first specimen was lot 24629 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. Sol, 1915-FG. NGC MS-65. Type XII. Tied with 5 others as second finest graded at NGC with only 1 example graded higher. Sharply struck with frosty luster. Just a touch of light attractive tone and excellent eye appeal. From the Alex Siegel Collection."
