Peru 1886-TF sol
The first specimen was lot 72370 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. Sol, 1886/5-LIMA TF. Lima Mint. NGC AU-55. An enticing crown, this wonderful lightly circulated example delivers a full strike and wholesome details with a charming appearance throughout. A piece deserving of intense bidding for the specialist in the series." The specimen shown is one of a series struck 1885-87 at the Lima mint. There are many varieties and subtypes of this basic design and later issues were emitted 1888-97 and 1914-16. This date is common. Assayer TF is recorded for 1886-96. For 1886 there is an overdate, 1886/5 and an overassayer, TF/BR, both scarce.
