Peru 1877-YJ dinero

This dinero, or dime, was struck 1863-77 in Lima, Peru, in respectable numbers. Many were saved and uncirculated specimens are available. Most issued after 1898 were made from melted down one sol coins. Varieties and overdates abound. For 1877, the SCWC records varieties "YJ" and "Y.J." and a "FEILZ" error. A later type, with a slightly different figure of seated Liberty, was issued 1893-1916 (KM 204). The silver coin was replaced in 1918 by a copper-nickel ten centavos.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a better date.

Specification: 2.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, reeded edge.
