his dinero, or dime, was struck 1863-77 in Lima, Peru, in respectable numbers. Many were saved and uncirculated specimens are available. Most issued after 1898 were made from melted down one sol coins. Varieties and overdates abound. A later type, with a slightly different figure of seated Liberty, was issued 1893-1916 (KM 204). The silver coin was replaced in 1918 by a copper-nickel ten centavos.

The example shown is a 1870/60 overdate, which also has a YJ/YB over-assayer. There are several other overdate/over-assayer combinations for this year of issue.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 2.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, reeded edge.
