Peru 1859-YB 1/2 real

This half real was struck in Lima for Peru in 1859. This type was minted 1859-61 with several overdates and varieties. During this transition period, fractionals denominated in reales mixed with those denominated in centavos and centimos. All coinage after 1858 ceased using the "standing liberty" motif and began using the "seated liberty" design. After 1863 the denomination "medio real" ceased to be minted altho the word "medio real" was applied to the half dinero coin until at least World War One.

Specification: 1.25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 0.036 oz ASW, reeded edge.
