This specimen was lot 1195 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "PENANG: AE cent, 1787, United East India Company bale mark // inscription in Jawi script jezirah perrinsa ab-wailis (Prince of Wales Island), old cleaning, XF." This copper cent superseded a dump uniface issue (KM 3) dated 1786. Quarter cents and half cents also exist. Later issues were struck for the Straits Settlements, centered on Singapore.
