Patan NS786 mohar KM-308
The first specimen was lot 3884 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $204. The catalog description[1] noted, "PATAN: Srinivasa Malla, 1661-1685, AR mohar, NS786 (1666), a scarce type, About XF, ex Dr. Robert A. Rosenfeld Collection." The second specimen was lot 76024 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $145. The catalog description[2] noted, "NEPAL. Kingdom of Patan. Mohar, NS 786 (1666). Jaya Srinivasa Malla. PCGS AU-50." The SCWC notes that the mohar was introduced during the reign of Lakshmi Narasimha to displace the debased tanka coinage. The mohar was half a rupee and coins were minted down to 1/128 mohar. Varieties KM 307 and KM 308 exist for the date but the low resolution photos in the SCWC make attribution difficult.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 5.34 g, silver, the first specimen 5.32 g.
Catalog reference: the first specimen KM-308, the second specimen KM 307.
