Paraguay 1978 10 guaranies rev DSLR.jpg

This specimen is the first coin issued by Paraguay as part of the F.A.O. series. Few South American countries issued F.A.O. coins but Paraguay issued a number of one, five and ten guaranies for F.A.O. in the 1978-88 period. Paraguay's ample grasslands lend themselves to the production of beef, which is why a cow is featured on the reverse. General Eugenio Alejandrino Garay (1874–1937) first appeared on the ten guaranies coin of 1975-76 (KM 153). This type was struck 1978, 1980, 1984, 1986 and 1988. All the dates are listed as common.

Recorded mintage: 15,000,000.

Specification: 4.5 g, stainless steel, 22 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 167.
