Paraguay 1900 5 centavos

This copper-nickel ten centavos was struck for Paraguay in 1900. By 1900, silver coinage in Paraguay was a distant memory and coinage in general was scanty and irregular. This type is accompanied by a ten and twenty centavos and no futher coins were emitted until 1908. The peso was dropped in favor of the guarani in 1944. This specimen was lot 1897 in Stack's Coin Galleries sale (Irvine, July 2011).

Recorded mintage: 400,000.

Specification: copper-nickel, reeded edge.
