from Steve Album sale 45, lot 1546

This specimen was lot 1546 in Stephen Album sale 45 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2023), where it sold for $204. The catalog description[1] noted, "PAPAL STATES: Pius IX, 1846-1870, AR 20 baiocchi, 1859-R year XIII, a lovely lustrous mint state example! PCGS graded MS63, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." This type was struck at Bologna 1858-59 and Rome 1858-65 and is fairly common. A slightly revised type, KM 1360a, which was 5.33 g, 0.835 fine silver, was struck 1865-66.

Recorded mintage: 1,104,000.
