Künker sale 403, lot 1585

This specimen was lot 1585 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €180 (about US$236 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Benedikt XIV. 1740-1758. 1/5 Scudo Romano (Doppio Giulio) A XVII/1756, Rom. Ohne Stempelschneidersignatur und ohne Wappen. Vorzüglich. (Papal States, Benedict XIV, 1740-58, fifth scudo or double giulio of the year 17, 1756, Rome mint, without engraver's initials or arms. Extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1753-56 for Benedict XIV. It is listed as common but this is the first example we have found for the Wiki.

Specification: 5.38 g, 0.917 fine silver, this specimen 5.21 g.
