Künker sale 294, lot 3127

This specimen was lot 3127 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €190 (about US$256 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIEN, KIRCHENSTAAT/VATIKAN, Benedikt XIV. 1740-1758. 1/2 Zecchino A IX/1749, Rom. GOLD. Sehr schön. (Papal States, Benedict XIV, 1740-58, half zecchino of 1749, Rome mint. Very fine.)"

This type was struck 1741-56 for Benedict XIV and is among the more common of papal half ducats. It is accompanied by a full ducat (Fr-231).

Specification: 1.72 g, 0.986 fine gold, .055 troy oz AGW, this specimen 1.68 g.
