Künker sale 403, lot 1477

This specimen was lot 1477 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €320 (about US$420 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PAPST INNOCENZ XII., 1691-1700. Die Münzstätte Rom. Testone A VII/1698, Rom. Stempelschneider Ferdinand de Saint Urbain. Mit dem Wappen des Presidente della zecca, Monsieur Maffeo Farsetti, auf der Rückseite. Vorzüglich. (Papal States, Innocent XII, 1691-1700, testone of the year 7, 1698, Rome mint, with the mintmaster's arms on the reverse. Extremely fine.)"

On the reverse, Christ is depicted standing with an orb, the motto reading, "IPSE·EST· PAX·NOSTRA·" (Ephesians 2:14: "He Himself is our peace"). This type was struck year VII only.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 9.16 g, 0.917 fine silver, this specimen 9,13 g.
