Papal States 1625 testone KM-146
This specimen was lot 589 in Jean Elsen sale 132 (Brussels, March 2017), where it sold for €60 (about US$76 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIE, ETATS PONTIFICAUX, Urbain VIII (1623-1644), (Maffeo Barberini), AR teston, 1625, an 2, Rome. Année Sainte. D/ Ecu de Barberini tenu par un lion, sous la tiare et les clés. R/ QVI INGREDITVR- SINE MACVLA La Porte Sainte et le voile de Véronique. Au-dessus, statue de la Vierge à l'Enfant. Dans le champ, RO-MA. Beau à Très Beau. (Italy, Pontifical State, Urban VIII (1623-44), silver teston of 1625, year 2, Rome mint, for the Holy Year. Obverse: Barberini arms supported by a lion, crossed keys and tiara above; reverse: Holy Door with the veil of St. Veronica, statue of the Mother and Child above. Fine to very fine.)"
This is one of two testone issued for the Holy Year of 1625, the other being Ber-1716.
