This specimen was lot 1312 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,443 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"PAPST JULIUS III., 1550-1555. Die Münzstätte Ancona. Giulio o. J., Ancona. (Papal States, Julius III, 1550-55, undated giulio, Ancona mint, with two pellets over the arms on the obverse and the privy mark of three crossed clubs on the reverse. Superb toning, extremely fine.)"
Two grossi made a giulio and three giulii made a testone. Larger coins such as the silver scudo and piastra would require the introduction of the screw press. This is one of many giulii recorded by Berman for Julius III.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.20 g, 0.920 fine silver, this specimen 3,20 g.
