Papal States (1464-71) ducat Fr-20
This specimen was lot 1276 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €2,400 (about US$3,149 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"PAPST PAUL II., 1464-1471. Die Münzstätte Rom. Ducato papale o. J., Rom. Mit Münzzeichen Rose (Pier Paolo della Zecca) auf der Rückseite. GOLD. RR Min. gewellt, leicht korrodiert, sehr schön. (Papal States, Paul II, 1464-71, undated papal ducat, Rome mint, with a rose privy mark on the obverse. Very rare, slightly wavy, light pitting, very fine.)"
This is one of eight different ducats (Ber-394 thru -401) for Paul II. St. Veronica is depicted holding the veil of Christ.
