This specimen was lot 1254 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €500 (about US$656 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCHER SENAT, 1184-1439. Grosso anonimo o. J. (1257-1270), Rom. + • SEN[retrograd]ATVS • P • Q • R • Löwe schreitet l., den Kopf nach vorn gewandt//+ • ROMA CAP’ • MUN[retrograd]DI • Roma thront v. v. mit Globus und Palmzweig. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Schöne Patina, vorzüglich. Exemplar der Spezialsammlung Münzen und Medaillen der Päpste, Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 233, Osnabrück 2013, Nr. 1101. (Papal States, senatorial issue, 1184-1439, undated anonymous grosso, circa 1257-70, Rome mint. Obverse: lion rampant left; reverse: Roma enthroned facing, with orb and palm branch. Scarce in this quality, handsome toning, extremely fine.)"
The popes of the time, Alexander IV (1254-61), Urban IV (1261-64) and Clement IV (1265-68), were mostly concerned with maintaining their independence from the German emperor and did not strike coinage.
