Paderborn SB119-42924r.jpg

This specimen was lot 42924 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Paderborn. 2/3 Taler, 1786. Friedrich Wilhelm (1782-89). NGC MS-63. Obverse: St. Liborius seated upon clouds. Reverse: Paderborn coat of arms on the reverse. An exquisite example with minor weakness through portions of the legends, but bold highly detailed central devices that reveal all of the intended detail. Yellow, orange and smoky blue tone appears over semi proof-like fields on both sides and contributes to the highly unique appearance. To date, the only example seen by the grading services and undoubtedly one of the finest extant; certain to draw interest from multiple bidders before finding its new home." This one year type seems to be the last issue from this state.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.44-13.85 g, 33 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-269; W-249.
