Paderborn 1684 thaler Dav-5709
This specimen was lot 3748 in Künker Auction 426 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,558 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"PADERBORN, BISTUM Hermann Werner von Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht, 1683-1703. Reichstaler 1684, Neuhaus. RR Feld der Vorderseite etwas berieben, sehr schön. (Germany, bishopric of Paderborn, Hermann Werner von Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht, 1683-1703, thaler of 1684, Neuhaus mint. Very rare, obverse polished, very fine.)"
Another rare issue from this episcopal state in northwest Germany. Unlike his predecessor and his successor, Hermann Werner does not seem to have been a pluralist; he held no other title.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specifications: silver, this specimen 28,93 g.
