Overijssel 1770 duit
This specimen was lot 32723 in Heritage Sale 3115 (Chicago, May 2024), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "Netherlands: Overyssel. Provincial Duit 1770 MS63 NGC, A rare single-date emission intended as a New Year's token with a personification of Hope on the obverse. This is the better of the two examples certified at NGC, the other specimen coming in a mere AU55. The opalescent toning on display is also of note, making for strong eye appeal on top of absolute rarity. From the Coenen Collection." The SCWC notes that this rare type was "Struck during the Batavian Rep.", i.e., after 1795. The duit was normally a copper denomination.
