Sincona sale 38, lot 1218

This specimen was lot 3719 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €480 (about US$647 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"OSTFRIESLAND, OSTFRIESLAND, GRAFSCHAFT, Enno I. 1466-1491. Goldgulden o. J. Emden, mit Titel Friedrichs III. Variante mit Kreuz in der Rückseitenumschrift. GOLD. Fast sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 191, Osnabrück 2011, Nr. 5725. (Germany, county of Ostfriesland, Enno I, 1466-91, undated goldgulden, Emden mint, struck in the name of Frederick III, variety with the cross in the obverse legend. About very fine.)"

This is the scarcer of two types listed for this ruler. The weight given for this specimen seems light even for a goldgulden; it may have been clipped or issued light.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.25 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 3,02 g.

Catalog reference: Fr-871; Kappelhoff 93 leicht var.
