Stack's Bowers 2025 ANA sale, lot 46726

This specimen was lot 46726 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Osnabruck. 12 Mariengroschen (1/3 Taler), 1670. Hannover Mint. Ernst August I. PCGS MS-62. Overstruck. The only graded example by PCGS." This type was struck 1669-70 with and without initials AS. Between 1532 and 1802 the bishopric alternated between a Catholic and a Lutheran. Ernest Augustus was duke (and later elector) of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg. The bishopric was later merged with the bishopric of Munster and both were annexed to Hannover in 1803.
