Goldberg sale 84, lot 4495

This specimen was lot 4495 in Goldberg sale 84 (Los Angeles, January 2015), where it sold for $76. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Norway. 5 Ore, 1896. NGC graded MS-61 Brown." This denomination was introduced in 1875 as part of the decimal reform which abolished the skilling and specie daler in favor of one hundred øre = one krona. It was not, however, regularly coined, being listed for 1875-78, 1896 and 1899. In 1907, Norway obtained a divorce from Sweden and became an independent kingdom under a Danish prince. Even before passing under Swedish rule in 1814, Norway had enjoyed a separate coinage from Denmark.
