Norway 1673 3 ducat Fr-13

Heritage sale 3135, lot 33299

This specimen was lot 33299 in Heritage sale 3135 (Pittsburgh, September 2026), where it sold for $146,400. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Norway: Near-Mint State 3 Ducat. Christian V gold 3 Ducat 1673 AU58 NGC, Christiania mint. Unsurprisingly, this is the only example to come to market for this rare type and the only one to be certified by NGC. The obverse features the symbol of the Danish Order of the Elephant which is Denmark's highest-ranked honor, while the reverse bears the engaging three C5 monograms among six crowns design. This example is further elevated by its preservation, verging on Mint-State, and only minorly impacted by the die crack visible on the reverse. Ex: L. E. Bruun Collection (Stack's Bowers, March 2025, Lot 14078); Peter v. Hemmert Collection (Copenhagen 1807, Lot 123)." Another rare issue that stands on the border of coin and medal.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 10.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, 29 mm diameter, this specimen 9.89 g.

Catalog reference: KM 127 (Rare), Fr-13. Bruun-10143.
