Norway 1630 specie daler Dav-3534
This specimen was lot 4788 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €3,200 (about US$4,199 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NORWEGEN, KÖNIGREICH, Christian IV. 1588-1648. Speciedaler 1630, Christiania. Ausbeute der norwegischen Gruben. R Leichte Prägeschwäche, sehr schön +. (kingdom of Norway, Christian IV, specie daler of 1630, Christianina mint, for the Norwegian mines. Rare, slightly weakly struck, very fine or better.)"
This specie daler was struck for Norway by Christian IV, king of Denmark 1588-1648. Despite a steady issue for 1629-48, this type is rare. The weight was reduced to 28.72 g in 1648 and it's possible many of this type were melted.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 29.23 g, 0.882 fine silver, this specimen 28,77 g.
