This specimen was lot 1539 in Goldberg sale 128 (Los Angeles, June 2022), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "Niue. 250 Dollars, 1988. Weight Soccer-Beckenbauer. One year type. NGC graded Proof 69 Ultra Cameo." The coinage of Niue is comprised solely of NCLT's; the locals use New Zealand currency for daily transactions. Wikipedia comments, "As part of the Realm of New Zealand, New Zealand conducts most diplomatic relations on behalf of Niue. Niueans are citizens of New Zealand and Charles III is Niue's head of state in his capacity as King of New Zealand. Between 90% and 95% of Niuean people live in New Zealand...." The SCWC lists four different NCLT's (KM 20, KM 39, KM 41, KM 48) of this denomination in 1988. Herr Beckenbauer recently (January 2024) died.
