This specimen was lot 70369 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. Newfoundland. 5 Cents, 1903. PCGS-62 Secure Holder. Lightly toned satiny surfaces with a nice cartwheel effect." This type was struck in London (shown here) and Heaton 1903, 1904-H and 1908 only. Newfoundland was admitted into the Dominion of Canada in 1949 and her separate coinage ceased. As a class, Newfoundland coinage is scarcer than equivalent Canadian coinage but collector demand for it is lower so it is often cheaper.
