The first specimen was lot 20854 in Heritage sale 3008 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $2,530. The catalog description[1] noted, "Newfoundland. Victoria gold 2 Dollars 1865, MS62 PCGS, lightly toned and highly attractive with just a few tiny contact marks. Very rare date in mint state." This type was struck for Newfoundland in limited numbers 1865-88 and is fairly available in circulated condition. This date brings a 50% premium over the common date (1888) but is very rare in high grade.

Recorded mintage: 10,000.

Specification: 3.32 g, 0.917 fine gold, .098 troy oz AGW.
