New Zealand 1970 dollar KM-43
This specimen was lot 38002 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "COOK ISLANDS. Dollar, 1970. Elizabeth II. GEM PROOF. Ex: Craig A. Whitford Auction (04/1993), Lot # 0643 (with ticket)." This is not an issue of the Cook Islands, but of New Zealand honoring Captain Cook. Another New Zealand dollar of 1970 honored Mt. Cook or Aorangi (KM 42). Wikipedia comments, "Aoraki / Mount Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand. Its height, as of 2014, is listed as 3,724 metres (12,218 feet). It is situated in the Southern Alps, the mountain range that runs the length of the South Island."
