New Zealand 1970 cent rev DSLR.jpg

This type was struck for New Zealand in 1967-85. Some dates, such as 1968-69, 1977 and 1984-85, were made only for collector sets. A more mature bust of the queen was used 1986-88, whereupon the one and two cent coins were terminated. Coinage, formerly obtained exclusively from the London mint, is divided among that mint and the Canberra mint and Ottawa mint. The reverse depicts a frond of the silver fern (Alsophila dealbata).

Recorded mintage: 10,060,000 plus 20,000 prooflike specimens.

Specification: 2.05 g, bronze, 17.5 mm diameter, designed by Arnold Machin and James Berry.

Catalog reference: KM 31.1.
