NZ SB120-23400r.jpg

This specimen was lot 23400 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "NEW ZEALAND. Shilling, 1956. PCGS MS-66 Gold Shield. A nearly flawless example of the type, this vibrant Gem, offering a hint of toning, is tied with just one other specimen for the finest graded in the PCGS census. From the Fenton Collection." The copper-nickel issues of Elizabeth II are divided into "no shoulder fold" (1953-55) and "with shoulder fold" (1956-65, shown here). In a few cases, "no shoulder fold" dies were used in error in 1956 and 1957, creating rarities; otherwise, most dates are common.

Recorded mintage: 800,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 5.65 g, copper-nickel, 23.62 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-27.2.
